Some days you crave narrative theory. Others, you just want to laugh at idiots in the desert. Atom.com's Border Patrol quenches the latter. The original, six-part series has become something of a classic (launched last summer), revolving around three friends who voluntarily spend their weekends guarding the US southern border (against illegal immigrants., of course). You can watch the entire Border Patrol series or check out an interview with show co-creators Josh Greenbaum and Ben McMillan at Atom.com.
In watching the series, it's clear that Will Ferrell (despite his misstep with Land of the Lost) is more than just a comedian - he is now a comedic styling. Check out Border Patrol, Ep. 1: Oasis, below.
It's not a criticism of the talented Border Patrol gang, it's just that any actor able to portray a dead-pan idiot to the laughter of others, especially while hallucinating in a semi-nude state, inevitably looks like Will Ferrell. We call it the 'Ferrell Factor'. For comparison, check out Ferrell's imaginary fire scene from Talladega Nights, below.
Which brings us to a larger point: there can't be enough Will Ferrell. And the more obscure (infer 'online') you go, the better Ferrell's performances. Case in point, check out this YouTube clip of the man himself giving the commencement at Harvard.
