Francis Ford Coppola's 'Tetro' Shows Legend Still Has Gas In Tank

It's still early, but Francis Ford Coppola's Tetro is receiving predominantly positive reviews, including one from Roger Ebert who said, "The Film is boldly operatic, involving family drama, secrets, generations at war, melodrama, romance and violence...and a final act worthy of Verdi." (See trailer below.)

According to David Germain of the Associated Press, "It was friction between the filmmaker’s father, composer Carmine Coppola, and his uncle, opera conductor Anton Coppola, that helped inspire [Tetro]," which stars Vincent Gallo in the lead role as a writer living in Argentina in exile from his family — specifically his father, an overbearing music conductor driven by rivalries with his brother and son. "While the sibling rivalry between Coppola’s father and uncle was a basis for the film, the story is fictional, including the father-son estrangement and the journey of Tetro’s younger brother [newcomer Alden Ehrenreich] to reconnect with his lost sibling."

Tetro premiered in May at the Cannes Film Festival and is slowly making its way to major North American cities throughout the summer. For more information about Tetro, visist the film's website, read/watch Ford Coppola's MTV interview, and check out the director's comments in the video below.
