The STATE of Moviemaking: Xtranormal's Text-to-Movie Software

So you want to make a movie? Well, there's good news and bad news.

The good news is that you no longer need to hire a screenwriter, a gaggle of actors, a large production crew and a cutting-edge post-production facility to make a film.

In fact, you don't even have to leave your desk.

Fade in on STATE, a revolutionary text-to-movie software that only requires one thing from wannabe moviemakers: the ability to type on a keyboard.

Created by Xtranormal, STATE is a fun, free and easy to use real-time 3D animated storytelling application for Windows that enables users to unleash their inner Spielberg using its drag-and-drop animations, custom camera angles, international voices, soundtrack and sound effects, automatic lip-sync and voiceover.

That means you can make the characters walk where you want, say what you want and you control what camera angles to use when they’re doing it.

Then you can export your brilliance to standard movie files, share them with your friends or go straight for viral glory by uploading them to YouTube.

Pretty cool, huh? So, what’s the bad news?

Well, you can’t download storytelling talent. Not yet, anyway.

Still, Xtranormal’s mission is to bring moviemaking to the people. They say, quite rightly, that everyone watches movies. So why can’t everyone make movies?

God help us all.

(Caution: The language in the STATE created viral video below is a little salty. Hilarious, but salty.)

Of course, it’s a safe bet that, somewhere, there’s already a young Seth McFarlane-type genius using STATE to stitch together an animated masterpiece that will get him signed to one of the big Hollywood talent agencies.

More practically, however, this platform will be more useful for folks who want to mess around a bit and send their friends a joke, recreate a drunken night on the town for all the world to see or use as a novel way to ask a girl out on a date.

The software’s demo videos sure makes it look easy, too, but the pre-loaded voices – including the ones featured in a YouTube viral video created with the application, called Graphic Designers vs. Client, sound somewhat robotic.

But that video still provides good insight into the storytelling capabilities of the program.

Users can, however, use the voiceover option for a more dynamic, realistic and professional sound for the characters. And, with all its world’s (scenes) and characters to choose from, STATE is all about options and experimentation.

And, more importantly, it’s about having fun.

Download a BETA version of the software at www.xtranormal.com.
