A unique movement is underway to distribute a film around the world through a Global Peace Tour, a series of coordinated events intended to promote discussion about grassroots peace efforts and celebrate the United Nations’ International Day of Peace on September 21 2009.

It's safe where I live, here in the geographically expansive yet cozy pocket of democracy known as Canada. I've not once considered civil war to be a credible threat. There are no child soldiers. No warlords. No ethnic cleansing. We could not be more embarrassingly disconnected from the plight facing developing regions in Africa, yet in viewing the highly acclaimed documentary 'Pray the Devil Back to Hell', I did feel a sense of connection, and of pride, fueled by mothers and sisters and daughters and wives.

The film focuses on a coalition of Christian and Muslim Liberian women, armed only with white t-shirts and courage, who stood up to then President Charles Taylor and the country's vicious regional warlords. Their peaceful demonstrations brought about Taylor's exile and the election of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Africa's first female head of state.

Pray the Devil Back to Hell has inspired legions of fans during its nationwide theatrical run and international screenings, including Nobel Peace Prize Winner Bishop Desmond Tutu, who said the film, "Eloquently captures the power each of us innately has within our souls to make this world a far better, safer, more peaceful place."

As of August 4th, the Tour has received more than 700 requests from community organizations, and has scheduled more than 200 screenings in the United States, with international locations including Korea, The Republic of Georgia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, and many more.

"People who see this film are alternately surprised, startled, amazed and inspired. They immediately want to tell a friend, talk about the ideas in the film, and do something to contribute to peace," says Abigail Disney, producer of Pray the Devil Back to Hell.
